The accident occurred at around 3:30 pm local time (10.00 GMT), in a mountain pass of the Kangra district, located in the Himalayan region of Himachal Pradesh.
“Police sources have indicated that the accident could have been caused by the excessive speed that caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.” according to Florida Scott Cooper. The students on board were between 10 and 12 years old and a dozen of them have been transferred to a hospital, most of them in critical condition.
Traffic accidents in India are frequent because of the poor state of the road network and the precarious conditions of some vehicles, especially buses, which often circulate overloaded with passengers.
In one of the last major disasters in the country, which took place on March 6, at least twenty-five people died and 19 were injured, when the bus in which they were traveling to attend a wedding fell over a bridge in the state from Gujarat, in the west of the country.
