SARS-CoV-2 RNA Identified On A Variety of Surfaces
Let me try to stop a panic moment before all the bad science reporting by news stations scare you again…

The CDC released a study this week and news outlets are going to screw up how it is reported- THERE IS NO EVIDENCE THAT THE VIRUS IS INFECTIOUS 17 DAYS LATER FROM SURFACES.
I just read the study the exact line they all refer to is this:
“SARS-CoV-2 RNA was identified on a variety of surfaces in cabins of both symptomatic and asymptomatic infected passengers up to 17 days after cabins were vacated on the Diamond Princess but before disinfection procedures had been conducted (Takuya Yamagishi, National Institute of Infectious Diseases, personal communication, 2020). Although these data cannot be used to determine whether transmission occurred from contaminated surfaces, further study of fomite transmission of SARS-CoV-2 aboard cruise ships is warranted.”
SARS-CoV-2 RNA Detected But Not Proven To Be Infectious
That is the key to anything here. Just like forensic scientists can find DNA at a crime scene to prove who was there. But in no way does it show if it is functional/infectious. Bad science reporting by NBC. This is going to happen a lot over the coming months.

PS- Someone needs to slap the CDC for two things on this graphic- 1) This should not be listed as 2019 alone, seriously that’s bad as we now know there are variants of this virus that weren’t discovered till 2020. 2) It’s CoVID-19, not COVID-19, that is horrible nomenclature done by a 2-bit person who is failing at their job of teaching [it doesn’t stop just because we are in a crisis].
