Who Was Jeffrey Epstein?
Jeffrey Edward Epstein was born on January 20, 1953, in the USA. He was a known player in the financial world as well as a serial sex offender. His career started out in teaching and evolved over the years to banking and finance. He is known for working at Bear Stearns for a time before breaking away to start his own company.
In his work as a financial figure, he met many high society figures, and it was with them that the obsession with younger girls began. During his time socializing, he procured women for sexual purposes including those who were underage. These women were sexually abused by Epstein as well as others in his circle.
The investigation into Jeffrey Epstein began in 2005 when police in Florida heard of a parent complaining that he had sexually abused his 14-year-old daughter. Epstein pleaded guilty to this offense and he was convicted in 2008 for soliciting a prostitute as well as using an underage girl for prostitution. He served 13 months behind bars before being released. This was a huge blow to the victims because he had only been charged with the 2 crimes above, whereas in reality he was accused of abuse pertaining to 36 girls.
In 2019 Jeffrey Epstein made headlines again as he was arrested for sex trafficking of minors in both New York and Florida. On July 6 he was arrested, and on August 10, 2019, he died in his jail cell. It was thought by the medical examiner who inspected the body that he committed suicide, however, Epstein’s lawyers have disputed this. All criminal charges against Jeffrey Epstein were dismissed later in August as he was deceased.

Teaching
Jeffrey Epstein carried out many roles during his career, and as we mentioned earlier he began in teaching. In 1974 he joined the Dalton School in Manhattan as a physics teacher. He was dismissed from this role 2 years later in 1976 citing ‘poor performance’ in the role.
Banking
During his time as a teacher, Epstein became friends with Alan Greenberg who was the CEO of Bear Stearns. He was impressed with Epstein’s drive for success and his intelligence and decided to offer him a position. This is where he would learn how to trade on Wall Street and he certainly seemed to have found his calling. He moved up quickly from floor trader to options trader and was responsible for advising wealthy clients of the bank on tax mitigation. All seemed well until in 1981 he was guilty of a “reg d violation” and asked to leave the company.
Financial consulting
After leaving Bear Stearns, Epstein founded his own firm called Intercontinental Assets Group Inc. This company aimed to assist clients in reclaiming money from brokers and lawyers. Jeffrey Epstein loved his work and described himself as a high-level bounty hunter. One of the clients he had during this time was a Spanish heiress called Ana Obregon who wanted help recovering her father’s millions in investments. He became a known player in the field and someone well respected by many.
Tower Financial Corporation
Steven Hoffenberg hired Jeffrey Epstein in 1987 as a consultant for Tower Financial Corporation. This was a company that bought debts people owed to services like hospitals and banks. Epstein was paid $25,000 per month for his work. They tried to run a corporate raid on Pan Am but failed.
Tower Financial Corporation came to a crashing halt in 1993, as it was found that a huge Ponzi scheme was running that cost investors over $450 million. Hoffenberg claimed that Jeffrey Epstein was involved in the scheme. However, Epstein had previously left the company in 1989 so he was not charged.
During the rest of his career, he was involved with financial management, the media, Liquid Funding Ltd, hedge funds, and an Israeli startup called Reporty Homeland Security. During his time working with this company, he visited Israel in 2008 in the hopes that he could stay there to avoid trial for his sex crimes. In the end, he returned to the United States.
Video recordings
Jeffrey Epstein was obsessed with young women, so much so, that he hid cameras in many parts of his properties to record young women engaging in sexual activities with prominent figures to use as blackmail. Ghislaine Maxwell who was a close friend of Epstein stated that his private island in the Virgin Islands was completely rigged with wires and video cameras. His home in Palm Beach was raided in 2006 and 2 hidden cameras were found.
It is also said that his New York home was full of cameras, and a woman called Maria Farmer said that Epstein showed her a room in the mansion where people were watching the pinhole cameras. They were monitoring everything including the toilets and beds.
It is said that he lent girls to prominent figures for sexual purposes and kept recordings of encounters. This allowed him to use these as blackmail in later years. In 2018 he even admitted that he had dirt on powerful people.
Legal proceedings
In 2005 a woman contacted police in Palm Beach alleging that her 14-year-old stepdaughter had been taken to Epstein’s mansion by another girl. The 14-year-old was paid $300 to strip for Epstein and massage him. Police began a covert operation on Epstein over the next 13 months, including a search of his home that found hidden cameras. The police alleged that Epstein paid girls to perform sexual acts with him. There were interviews with 5 victims and 17 witnesses found that girls involved in these acts were largely under 18, with some as young as 14.
It was started by a former employee that he would receive massage from young girls 3 times a day. The FBI found that 34 confirmed minors were eligible for justice in this case. It was reported in the Miami Herald in 2018 that there may have been as many as 80 victims. One of the most disturbing details is of a set of triplets, aged 12, who was flown to the USA from France for Epstein’s birthday. They were flown back the following day after being sexually abused.
Conviction and sentencing (2008–2011)
On June 30, 2008, Epstein had pleaded guilty to procuring a girl below 18 for prostitution. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison. His prison life was however very swanky, as he was placed in a private wing, his cell door was left unlocked, and he had access to television. After serving 13 months in prison he was released. In 2011 he was categorized as a level three sex offender.
